Great remote campsite right on the water, have your tents RIGHT on the river. Noise level is generally low. The only issue are the large amount of black bears that will roam the campsite. Really wish the park service would install some bear boxes for campers at the sites.
Willow Bay Campground is a BEAUTIFUL Campground. The part that ruins it for me (Local Avid Outdoorsman) is, the campground books reservations with Credit Card holders, giving others almost no chance to ever get site in the Campground. They are constantly hiring new, young attendants that aren't very knowledgeable of the campground, or it's policies. The ONLY way I can camp there is if I go in the off season, such as Early Spring, or Late Fall. I have a small Teardrop Camper that I built myself,..it's what I do, but I rarely can ever get a site. The Campground is Very clean with clean restrooms. It is a Photographer's paradise. There is Fishing, boating, trails and wildlife,..mostly Black Bear. I try to camp there before, or after the summer crowds. In the Summer, the campground is always full, and not as quiet either. I love Willow Bay Campground, it's just the large parties of Campers with their barking dogs that ruin the experience for me, and I;m a very friendly, respectful Camper. I now camp elsewhere, which will remain a secret for these reasons.I will still enjoy camping there,..I'll just go when everyone else is waiting for Summer:)
Love, love, love Willowbay. My family has stayed two weekends in the last 5 years and will be going back this year. We always rent a cabin in the Deer Loop. The cabins are perfect. A full size bed and a bunk bed. Enough room for our coolers and our dog's travel kennel. If you love canoeing or kayaking you can hit the beach just about 100 yards from your cabin door. The boat ramp at the end of the campground serves power boats opening exploring of the upper Kinzua reservoir.
Had a great time, great location, beautiful views, cabins and a boat launch. Restrooms only had a toilet with a sewer tank. No sink in them. Cabins were small but in great condition and can sleep 4 with a little room for your items.
Gorgeous views and extremely clean facilities as well as very well maintained camping grounds. We rented a cabin here and thought it was very reasonably priced. I enjoyed the swing on our porch area and it was peaceful enough for me to read a good chunk of the book I brought along. Lush forests and beautiful creek/river views were within short walking distances. Would camp again.
